I keep her in my room. Everytime i get home from school or work i see leaves in the floor or the plants all chewed up. My mom gets mad and wants to leave her in my room but i think its too much time for her to be alone in my room. What can i do??
How can i stop my cat from chewing on the plants my mom has around the house?
Our cats would do this as well. We bought this lemon bitter spray, spray it on the plant the take a lick and leave it alone. You can get it at most pet places., and it wont harm the plant
Reply:theres this special spray..i only really find it around xmas time..since its mean for the tree..it keeps cats FAR away from plants...im not too sure what its called..since I havent had a real tree or a cat for 5 years
Reply:I've splashed the dirt around my plants with Tabasco in the past--it seemed to keep my cat out of them.
Reply:I have never been able to stop this habit, only reduce it. Cats like plants and grass and its natural for them to nibble on them. Plants also seem to make fun play toys...
If you catch your cat in the act squirt her with a squirt bottle, yell no, or clap loudly. Something to scare her away from the plants. In time this should teach her not to eat your mom's plants. Or at least not to do it when your looking....
Also you can buy your cat kitty grass and leave a pot of that out for her. Put it somewhere else in the house not next to the house plants. You can it get at any pet store even at target and walmart. It grows really easily. Sometimes cat grass is more tempting then the house plants and she will chew on those instead.
Reply:she might be lacking something in her diet. Also most pet shops sell cat grass that you can grow for her to nibble on.
Then she might leave your moms plants alone.
Reply:You can spray around the plant with a commercial bitter apple spray or make your own with cayenne pepper %26amp; water or orange oil %26amp; water. Cats don't like the flavor of any of these and they will not harm the plant. You can also plant something that's OK for cats to eat (many household plants are poisonous, by the way) like lemongrass, cat grass, catnip, et cetera. When you see the cat chewing on one of your mom's plants, move it to the plant that "belongs" to it.
Also make sure your cat doesn't have any tooth problems and is getting a high quality food -- sometimes they chew to relieve pain or want to eat leafy greens because they're not getting enough vitamins.
Reply:Find her more interesting chew toys. My kitten loves to chew on electrical wires but ever since we gave her a small stuffed animal and a empty paper towel roll she doen't play withthe wires anymore.
