Cat Eating My House Plants?

My tabby, who is strictly indoors, continues to eat my house plants and cut flowers. He only eats the greenery.

We feed him Purina Indoor Formula cat food, and I have bought organic cat grass for him. He refuses to eat the cat grass, and continues to eat my cut flowers and house plants.

Even when I move the plants to a higher location, he finds a way to jump to them.

I don't want to spray bitters on the plants if I can avoid it, because he's obviously needing it in his diet. Any ideas on what I can do to help him find whatever it is that he's needing if he won't eat the organic cat grass?

Cat Eating My House Plants?
Try just planting normal grass, this wont harm your cat. Keep it in a little pot near his favorite place. He may just not like the organic, cat specific stuff! Cats are very picky.

If he is chewing plants alot, he may want to be sick. Try changing his diet and mashing up his food to try and combat a poorly tummy he may have. The food may not agree with him, or he may just be eating it too quickly in big chunks. Those silly kitties.

Try putting lemon or orange peel in your plant pots, cats hate the smell of it.

You are right in saying that a cat needs to chew on greenery, it helps their digestion and induces vomiting if they need it, cats rely on being sick alot to help their stomachs and also furballs. Try grooming him, even if he is short haired, to see if that makes a difference to the amount he chews! But it is still very important you find something he can, and is allowed, to chew on. Grass is definatly the best for this.
Reply:To stop your cat from eating your plants, go to your local pet shop and buy him some toys with catnip in, he will adore them and it will entice him away from your plants for sure.

Hope this helps
Reply:Cats hate the smell of mint and of citrus fruits. I put mint oil on a cotton ball and put it in the plant pot and it keeps my cat away big time. Maybe you could try a harness and leash to take your kitty outside to eat grass if he needs it. Perhaps the purina is upsetting his tummy and a change in diet is called for. Some houseplants are poisonous to cats so I would check his behavior somehow if I were you. Maybe the vet has some ideas. Good luck
Reply:Hi

some cats suffer from what is called Pica. Which basically means a strange desire to eat unual things and plants can come into that catagory. Unfortunately there is no cure just prevention ie as you say spraying the plants with bitters etc.
Reply:I have 3 cats. They are indoor/ outdoor cats. The middle cat whom is three loved to ruin my flowers and plants. I also have tried some of the above remedies and have found that they do this to help digest their food and help their hair balls. I have found that house grown cat nip and a small squirt bottle works wonders.
Reply:GET A SMALL SPRAY BOTTLE AND PUT A LITTLE VINAGER MIXED WITH WATER AND SPRY HIM EVERY TIME HE GETS CLOSE AND HE WILL STOP CAUSE HE WILL NOT LIKE THE SPRAY AND IT DOES NOT HURT HIM EITHER
