Hot house to keep plants during winter months?

I have a garden that is 9 ft wide and 20 ft long that I would like to cover and use during the winter months. Need suggestions.

Hot house to keep plants during winter months?
Try a wood frame about 6 feet on the outside walls with a pitched roof. Cover the frame wit 2 layers of of thick clear plastic. You will want to cover the ends as well the same way. Make your door this way too.

If you need heat in it at night use a small propane or natural gas heater. MrHeater makes some good models for about $100 or so that run off a 20 # tank. Just don't leave it in there when you water the plants. You should only need to keep it from freezing at night so it will be cheap to heat.

You should be able to do all of this for around $500 or so to cover the entire garden. Come spring just remove the heater and cut off the plastic. Leave the frame in place for next year.
Reply:just because it is 9ft wide dosent mean the frame has to be 9ft wid you can have small long individuall green houses which will take less time to heat up but will get very hot so rember air holes or open end may or will be required

there are many ways of doing this

to stop frost all you need is something over the garden at any height between knee to head high that covers the whole lot to stop frost falling on garden

to create a hot house

any way

1 you can use half moon segments covered in plastic(like thick clean film/packing wrap) usely lasts about 2 years (the plastic) in segments because if you wanted to have it not very hieght you cant fit under so you move off or if you want it height it is easyer to maintain in segments

2 buy a snap together frame system and cover with plastic

3 buy pvc and ask some one to bent in half moons (segments) be carefully what pvc you buy as it can be britle or flexable you want somthing strong that wont crack like glass and pvc comes in large sheets about 1m buy 2m i think so this will be low but easy to move around with handles installed even hinges and one end

screw to a runner board and the half moons are easly tilted out of way

4 build a basic frame around whole unit and cover with plastic

remember to allways keep it simple simple is best
Reply:do the GREEN HOUSE project.

use fiber-glass walls and roof
Reply:depends on how cold it gets there but you will need a green house to make it happen and a heater is it going to be worth your time and money. shop around before you buy
