Water pond plants , can I bring in the house thru the winter months or what do I do with them?

Should I just throw the water plants out as people have told me they smell terrible when you bring them in the house and they will need lots of light to grow. Any suggestions?

Just leave them out there. In Zone 7 I did just fine with them, they all came back. Check the USDA map for your zone, then try to figure out the hardiness of each plant. Just make sure there is water in the pond so they don't try out, or they WILL freeze.
Reply:It's the water that stinks. As long as you replace the water and don't let it get slimey, you'll have no problems. I'm sure you can get a cheap kiddie pool right about now. That's what most people use who don't have a large aquarium sitting around. As long as they don't freeze, they should be ok, so it's ok to put them in the garage and not in the house as long as it doesn't freeze in the garage for a few days straight.

It may not even be necessary to bring them in at all, depending on where you live.
Reply:Actually some plants need to winterize in order to flower the next season.
Reply:at the start of winter, cut your plants back to the top of the bulbs and leave them in the pond. as long as the water does not freeze around the bulb, they will be fine, any that freeze can be replaced in the spring
Reply:idk, i think just leave them out they should survive
