How much carbon dioxide is absorbed annually by an average sized house plant?

I am interested because I have house plants and I wonder how much they contribute to a carbon neutral lifestyle.

I would say that in the long run they do not contribute at all. That is because in the end they will die or be eaten. Once they break down, the carbon dioxide they have stored will be released. Hence they will not make a difference to the carbon balance.

In the longer term, trees do not make any contribution to negating the greenhouse effect either. though they turn it into wood, if they die and are burned ofr slowlly decompose the weill release the carbon dioxide again.

It is only when Carbon dioxide is sequestered away underground as coal or as lime in limestone that it is actually removed on a long term basis from the atmosphere.

Don't buy into this garbage. Carbon neutral, no such thing. Especially when you start nitpicking down to the effect of house plants.
