How do you rid gnats from dirt of house plants?
You can get a large plastic cup, and pour 1/4 cup of vinegar in it. Then, place clear masking tape on the top of the cup, leaving some small spaces.

The gnats will be drawn to your vinegar, but will be trapped by the sticky part of the tape.

This will take 1-3 weeks, but eventually, they will all end up in the vinegar cup.
Reply:put a small bowl next to the plant, put some apple juice, liquid soap,%26amp; water in mix it up, they will be drawen to the juice fall in and drown,
Reply:Overwatering will cause those gnats....and baking or microwaving the soil is a good way to kill off the bacteria's good and bad. Replenish the "cooked or baked soil" with worm compost for an excellent planting medium.Bake at 250 about 1 hour. Sorry,I am not sure about how long to micro the soil.
Reply:my aunt put garlic cloves in the dirt.
Reply:Fungus gnats are nasty annoyances...I use many products from a local hydro/ organic store for all of my gardening needs.

They have many bug sprays safe for use indoors, around kids, pets, etc...give them a call. Great people!

GoGnats is their newest product that might help. Don't Bug Me is another good one.

Good luck!
Reply:re-pot your house plants using soil that you have microwaved in a microwave oven. This kills any bugs, eggs and bacteria present. Let the soil cool down to room temperature and pot...ok.

Happy potting..
Reply:Put a layer of sand on top of the dirt. Then when the eggs hatch in the dirt, the gnats cannot get through the sand and die.
Reply:You have gotten some interesting answers, I had heard of the vinegar one, I would be afraid that the cat would knock the vinegar over in my plant.

The sand might work well, I have never seen gnats in my cacti soil/ sand.
