Cats and house plants?

My cats keep shredding my houseplants. I tell them off but they just come back for more. I sprinkled some chilli powder on the plant about a minute ago and so far the cats have kept away. Is there a more effective way to keep the cats at bay without sprinkling chilli around the place?

Cats and house plants?
why are people so thumbs-down happy? ignoramuses
Reply:are they eating them or just tearing them up with their claws.

you should feed your cats grass. it's good for their digestive system %26amp; is a natural instinct for them to chew on it. they even sell little potted plates of grass for you to grow for your cats in the pet section at walmart. try that.

if they're just tearing at them, buy them a scratching post, preferably one with catnip in it to attract them to scratching on something else. or maybe you should just put your plants out of reach. =)
Reply:my 2 cats like eating my plants and the only plant they would not eat are geriunians, I guess they did not like the texture of the leaves...I now have a board with the eyelet screws on each end and small chains to hang from my ceiling, and I keep my plants hanging on the shelf and my cats cannot get to them and my plants are thriving and its a good conversation when company visits and its a great space saver as well
Reply:Something that works very well is Moth balls cats dont like the scent of it and will keep away from it completely it works very well Note: I know all this stuff cuz my moms been doing animal rescue for 15years lol I'd just get moth balls though they look much cleaner and just put a couple in your plant
Reply:Hmmm, never really had the shredding problem. Maybe the chili cure will break the habit and you won't have to keep sprinkling it constantly.

Sorry, guess I am not much help.
Reply:There is a spray that you are able to purchase that gives of an odour which keeps the cats away.
