What to do re mealy white things that gather on stems of house plants?
Ah, mealy bugs, the bane of gardeners... Spray the plant with fairly weak soapy water (ie dish detergent and water or soap flakes and water). Do it every day or so until you've cleared up the current infestation completely. If it reappears, obviously you didn't do it long enough, so spray for a few more days. There are heaps of alternatives - garlic spray, oil spray - but the good news is that probably any of them would work. They're fairly easy to get rid of.
Reply:You could wipe them all off with tissues then spray the plants with a pesticide. My mum reckons a mixture of washing up liquid and water sprayed on is just as good?? More organic I suppose.
