I have some house plants and am wondering how often should I water them. Seems I always kill them somehow.Thnx

Obviously, not enough water can kill. But, as the others have noted, overwatering a plant can kill it too. Most indoor plants require ample moisture, but don't like to be soaking wet. Make sure that your pots have good drainage. If your pots don't have any drainage at all, then you have two choices: if it's a plastic pot, then drill some holes in the bottom and buy a drainage tray to put underneath. (That's so water doesn't make a mess inside your house!) If you can't drill holes, then you will have to go longer between waterings until your soil drys out enough to take on more. You don't want to create a swamp! Too much standing water in the soil will cause "root rot", and kill your plant. Many people have said "well it's got plenty of wet soil." Yeah, well....it's too much.

The absolute best way to determine when it's time to water, is to buy a Hydrometer, otherwise called a "moisture meter". You can buy it at Wal-Mart for around $6. Stick it into the soil and let it tell you how dry it is. No finger in the world is as accurate as this simple tool! You can't go wrong!

Watch out for that advice regarding coffee. That's for plants who like to live in acidic soil. You may torture your plant if it doesn't like Starbucks as well as you do!

Good Luck to you, and have fun!

I advised you,for the indoor plants they are less sun so it is enough if you water it once a day or once in a two days. But for outdoor plants you have to water it for at least twice a day, or up to three times a day. It is because the outdoor plants are fully sun. I have one tips for watering plants, make sure you water plants the water drip from the under pots so that the whole soil is wet. Then if you are not sure either you need to water the plants or not ,do put your finger and feel the soil, is it wet or dry, if it dry you have to water it.
Reply:It depends on the plant. Succulents need less water than other types of plants.

General rule of thumb is to stick your finger in the soil. If it's dry the length of your first digit, water. But check a gardening book for specifics on your plant.

The number one cause of killing houseplants is overwatering.
Reply:Once a week usually.
Reply:.Best to check the soil first ,if it feels damp you don't have to water at that time.If soil is dried out then water them.Over watering can kill the roots and the plant will die.Plants seem to grow better if they get the morning sun. Also good to transplant them into a larger pot with fresh soil.Hope this helps.
Reply:well put them were there is some light but not to much and not to little. Then water mabe every other day. If they git dry and start to die then try coffee when u water them. It seams weird but don't worrie I got your back.
