Is there a sort of soot on the leaves too? Could be mold.
Try going to a horticultural site for more info and pics of different problems.
House plants turning black can anyone help?
Plants turn black, many times, when they've been frost bitten. Are they in a place that's too cold? Do they get enough light? Do you water, but not soak, them? Plants don't like to sit in a saucer of water. Try a Google search on the correct care for the kind of plants you have.
