I'm thinking about having plants in my house to lighten up the place, but...?

what do I need to learn and how can I go about in making sure I dont kill my plant. P.S. I don't know nothing about planting nor do I have a "green" thumb.

Good indoor plants are ivy and spider plants. They like some light but don't need much care. Ficus trees are OK too, if you have a big space. African violets do great inside too. If you have a Tuesday Morning or Mainly Seconds store near you, they specialize in indoor plants. Otherwise, jsut hit the Home Depot or your local nursery and tell the guy what you are going for and he can help you pick them out.

Most of the time if your plant starts to wilt or turn brown there is plenty of time before they die for you to be able to intervene. And you can always hop back on the Answers with your plants symptoms and we can help you with that too!
Reply:To be honest I have a black thumb, I killed numerous cacti! Anyway, you will need to get professional advice about the plants you choose from the people at your local nursery. If there isn't much light in your place, you may have to search a little harder for the right plant. If you have never grown any plants you may want to stick with the basics, like buying miracle grow soil. They make a type called moisture control that will help with the watering. Make sure whatever pots or planters you use have a dish beneath them to catch the excess water you put in, otherwise it will ruin your funiture or floors. Plants get easier the more you work with them. Until 3 years ago I couldn't keep anything alive, this year I am planting a garden in my backyard!
Reply:well first off, you need to know not to use much water and make sure it has enough sunlight. for water u need to give it half a cup a week. sunlight, you need to place it near a window, or under a lamp and turn it on when it's sunny, and off at night. also there is a tag that should come with it and it tells how much it needs
Reply:Go to the local nursery and look at the plants that you like... usually there is a plant tag with info on watering and feeding... you can purchase the plant and follow these simple directions...

You should have no problem ....

Enjoy
Reply:Go to Walmart and get a spiderplant - ask them for one if you don't know what it looks like. It is very easy for the house, hang it from a ceiling hook. Try pothos too, available at most Walmart, home improvement stores. You can hang both and they are hard to kill. Green thumb not required!

After you get used to them, get some library books on plants, try some more new things.THE easiest plant would be an "air fern" of any type, but they are small and not so pretty. I have one and the can thrive anywhere with a light water misting monthly (or less!). Hope you figure it out! Good luck...
