yes
Reply:You are correct in being cautious about using softened water on plants.

Most people do not know that softened water contains sodium, or common table salt in quite a large quantity, if consumed in large amounts it can cause problems in high blood pressure people and it can build up rapidly in the soil of plants in pots since there is no drain off that happens outside in ordinary plantings.

So it greatly depends on how much calcium you have in the hard water to start with. Because every last bit of calcium is replaced by an identical amount of sodium. Thus lots of calcium, lots of sodium.

I myself, do not drink softened water nor do I water my greeenhouse plants with it.. I have a pipe running from the well to a drinking faucet on the kitchen sink to avoid that sodium in the softened water since I have very hard water, ie lots of calcium,

Plants in my pots would build up with this sodium and salt on plants will kill their roots and the result would be lots of sickly plants.

I am always very surprised about those selling watersoftners and people using them the lack of understanding of the fact that sodium replaces calcium in the softened water and your water to a degree is "salty" This softening process is a "replacement" process with sodium for calcium. .
Reply:i dont think the salt in a softener has any bearing on the water coming out of your spigots. it is used when the system backflushes. i drink mine, blood pressure is fine and use it on my plants. it would have to be better than regular tap water because the chlorine is being taken out. along with a few trace minerals that your fertilizer should compensate for...
Reply:I just had one installed, and the guy said that he uses it for his all the time and they look great...However, you do not want to use them on "woody" plants...(tree-like plants), not sure of the reason, but that is what he told me..
