Philodenron house plant-tips of leaves begin to brown?

i have many variations of philodenron house plants. The "vine' type I have no problem with. But the type that the leaf is a dark green and grows somewhat like an umbrella shape ..the kind that 'tells' when it wants water; and also the type that grows up high with the think stalk like branch.. with green leopard like stripes on the leaves...am i right in saying the leaves turn brown on all of these plants (it begins with tips) because the plant is being 'over' watered? it is not in directly 'sun'light.

yes and no. the leaves will turn brown if there isn't adequate drainage. I always put river rocks in my pots first to prevent over watering-- the brown leaves happen when calcium and salt build up and clog the roots. Today, take all your plants and rinse the roots with cold water, then set them in your bath tub to drain (ab out 2 hours) then re pot with rocks at the bottom. Go to your local hardware store and get a copper probe that will tell you exactly when to water your plants (you should only water them when they are dry) -- I had the same problems and I learned all of this from experience, and reading books about houseplants, and I have kept 4 plants happy %26amp; healthy for over 8 years ever since -- Good Luck!
