Parlour and Kentia palms are easy and survive in light or pretty shaded areas - whilst most indoor plants need the right combination of light without drafts. Peace lilies are really easy too and they don't mind being out of the light too. Cacti can be pretty difficult - they're good in kitchens where you'll get a bit of humidity but if you go for the desert varieties you need to let them dry out completely between watering or they'll collapse - you need to be careful with Aloes as well in terms of watering as they like to dry out too. I had a diffenbachia for years on a drafty window sill in my old bathroom, it flourished until I went away travelling and my mum killed it off in her living room. If you like the look of orchids but don't like the idea of looking after them try a jewel orchid. They thrive on neglect! There are two excellent books on House Plants: "The House Plant Expert" books one and two by Dr D G Hessayon which Homebase sell or you can probably pick up from Amazon or something.
Reply:A jade plant requires practically no maintenance. It is a form of cactus and requires little water. They are very easy to grow. All you need to do is pluck off a leaf and bury the picked end into the soil.

Plus, they are interesting to look at. They are a deep green in color with ovalish shaped leaves.

Aloe is also relatively easy to take care of, plus it's handy to keep around the house, especially if you get burned.

I understand snake plant is an easy plant to care for, but I've never had it myself so I don't know much about it.

Christmas cactus is nice as well, but they're very picky about where they stay. If you have it in the right spot, they'll bloom beautiful flowers. If not, it's still a lovely shade of green and also interesting to look at.

Hope this helped!
Reply:try a beaucanea or ponytail plant, they only need watering about once a month, also mother in laws tongue, or just look some up in a book or website

good luck
Reply:cheese plants are good as house plants. they can grow very tall though. and need a lot of tending
Reply:an Umberella Plant is an evergreen plant/tree that is well nigh indestructible we've had our one for approx 20 years. it gets forgotten during the winter and the pot dries out leaves fall off we eventually water it and hey presto! its back.

Yucca plants seem fairly tough as well
Reply:Why not try some cactus? buy those small ones that are in a small pot; Because of this it makes it really low maintanance as it only need some water and sun. there is another one which is i think is really pretty; the small green bamboos at small pots-u could buy them sometimes in ASDA. :)
Reply:peace lily is a good low maintenance plant not to flowery water once a week dont pot on you get some white flowers though they love neglect even my wife hasn't killed it

mother in laws tounge is another

try them
Reply:I have a 'Weeping Fig' which is a lovely non-flowering houseplant, which is very low maintenance. I have had it for years and I am always forgetting to water it, but still it survives - even in this weather -oops - I must go and water it now!

Coleus is another lovely plant with red leaves that is very nice.

For a tall plant, you could always buy a Rubber Plant that is already established - not so unusual, but quite easy to maintain and still it looks impressive. You might be able to pick up a second hand one cheap on ebay, as a large one in a garden centre might be expensive.

Another idea is to go for a large unusual cactus, as they need very little watering and can look stunning. Once again large ones tend to be expensive, but you might be able to pick up a second hand one on ebay.

Why not try Webbs for Beautiful House Plants - they should be able to give you lots of ideas and are a great p[lace for buying unusal plants:
