Why do cats dig in house plants and how do you get them to stop?

cats dig cause that is nature..I have 74 houseplants and a cat, so.. I have had that problem myself,,what you do is get some small rocks and lay them on top of the soil and that will keep the kitty out, kittens dont like to dig in something that is that hard..good luck

Why do cats dig in house plants and how do you get them to stop?
lemon peels or a citrus spray...cats hate the smell of citrus.
Reply:put a bit of kerosene on a rag and leave it there till you see the problem disappear
Reply:Get their nails off.
Reply:They dig in plants for a couple reasons, one being to use as a litter pan. The other simply to play in the dirt, kind of like little kids do.

You can stop this behavior pretty easily. just get some window screen, then cut it in to circle the same side at the top of the planter. Then cut from the outside to the center so you can place it around the stem of the plant.
Reply:Unsure, why they dig in the plants But, I put nice (polished pebbles or stones in my planters and they have no interest in that at all. My work for you.
Reply:There is something in the root of the plant that they like to eat. They like to get grass to. If your plant it big enough, they might be going to the bathroom in the plant.
Reply:put moth balls in the soil. That always seems to work for me
Reply:Put orange peel on the top. Cats hate the smell of citrus.
Reply:was told allium, flowering bulb, keep most critters away
