Any soil can transmit any pest. Spread your new soil on a baking sheet ant roast it at 300 for an hour. Or you can microwave it at 75% power for 2 minutes. That should kill off living pathogens.
Can cheap dirt for house plants bring fruit flys?
yes and expensive dirt can do this as well
