What kind of house plants can I get that are inexpensive?

Just go to a place like Lowe's that has an end of season sale and buy whatever is really cheap. In fact they sometimes have ones that are so dried out they are planning to just throw them out - maybe if you asked you could get some of those for free and try reviving them with a lot of watering. You can't get cheaper than that.

Get a bunch of fall-planting bulbs and plant them in bowls for winter color (probably 10 for $5)

if you buy something like a spider plant it will have a bunch of hanging plantlets that you can cut off and plant by themselves so you now have more plants for the same expenditure.

Reply:Spider plants and philodendrons
Reply:Go to wal-mart they sell for less everyday.
Reply:WALMART HAS PRETTY GOOD PRICES ON HOUSE PLANTS-SOMETIMES PEOPLE HAVE THEM AT GARAGE SALES TOO! NOW IF YOU LIVED CLOSE TO ME I WOULD GIVE YOU A FEW STARTERS CAUSE MINE SEEM TO MULTIPLY ALL BY THEMSELVES!
Reply:Try Walmart ! in the plant section they usually have plants for $1 to $ 2. they are small but treat them well and you will be suprised how fast they will grow , also ask your friends for a cutting from there plants . If they have plants anywhere you go [DR%26gt; office ,resturant ] any where, just ask most people will be glad to give you a piece.
Reply:go to your local craft store and get an artificial plant. You cant kill them, and they look very real and very nice. I have had a ficus tree, it was really nice in the corner of my living room. The only thing is it kept falling over. My friend put a heavy rock in hers and it never fell over and it looked very nice.
Reply:impatiens, or try an herb garden
Reply:Ask your friends who have plants for cuttings and put an message on Freecycle (the Yahoo! group) and you will probably get a lot more than you'd ever think.
Reply:Ivies, Ivies are very nice plants, not too expensive are easy to care for. Plus you can re root them and make several different plants from one. (this process takes time, but is well worth the wait)
