Do sweet potatos make, good house plants?

Someone told me this. how do you grow them??

Do sweet potatos make, good house plants?
Yes and no. If you want to have them to eat then no. If you want the ornamental vines and flowers then yes, some varieties do very well indoors.

They can be grown just the same as any tropical houseplant. They look especially good in hanging baskets.

Reply:I've never tried, but I'm gonna say that there are better house plants. You'd need a pretty big planter to grow sweet potatoes. There are, however, ornamental sweet potatoes... one is called the Ace of Spades http://www.papagenos.com/plantdb/plants....

Good luck
Reply:I am 47 and I remember when I was a small child we grew a sweet potato in the kitchen window. We stuck toothpicks(about 4 of them) around the sweet potato so the bottom was just barely in the water when the potato was put into a jar or drinking glass. The vines grew and wound it's way all around the window.I remember thinking it was so pretty.

Reply:They do make pretty houseplants. However they may be hard to get started when they are dug up they are dusted with an agent the hinders new sprouts. If you have one that is sprouting bury it in a pot and keep it watered. It will do best in a hanging basket. It will not grow forever it will die of eventually. The grow fast and are fun to watch.
Reply:It will make a beautiful vine, but you won't get potatoes in doors. When one starts to sprout, plug in some toothpicks and suspend it in a jar full of water. Give it plenty of room. Don't think of it as permenant. It will die out after a year..
Reply:nothing is good to grow inside everything will stink up your cribb
Reply:You can grown them in a small dish with a bit of water and cotton wool to start off then when the roots get going you can put then thing into a jug of water. It growns like a vine minus the potato's. We use to do this as kids all the time. Just make sure the water doesn't dry out.

Its rather easy just cut a bit off that has a eye on it and next thing you know you will have this thing over growing up ur walls.
Reply:potatoes grow underground and the plant can become 3 feet wide and tall -best grown outside, but possible indoors. but why??
