What causes house plants roots to rot.?

Well, first of all, you should make sure the plant is in a pot that has holes in the bottom for drainage.

When you water your houseplant, water it enough that water comes out the bottom and pools in whatever you have under the pot. Let the water stand for about 10 minutes to allow the soil/roots to absorb what they need. After that, drain any water that remains under the pot. This should preven root rot.

Roots as a vital part of a plant needs specific requirements for it to survive and function well. These includes proper aeration, minerals and water among other plants needs. Lack of these may cause the plant to rot. Another factor are microbes that infects plants.
