I have a converted cellar in my property that is suffering from damp as the people who did the conversion failed to damp proof it properly. Rather than using a dehumidifier or the cost of damp proofing i wondered if there were any house plants that may deal with this problem naturally.
Are there any plants that are particularly good at drawing in excess moisture?
Hello, Is it condensation through lack of air circulation?might solve the problem install a small vent through the wall (fan assisted) Plants give out moister i think? If all fails try growing corn and when it's ripe cut the ears of and place them in a trug like basket this will attract the dampness but you must let the stalks grow this will become a straw and cure the problem(Joke)Na poor one. Seriously . If the damp is coming up floor area paint on a wet membrane. Call back people responsible. You will eventually get a musty smell and it is bad for your health all kind of bronchial problems.Wish you luck.
Reply:Ferns are a good plant to draw in extra moisture.
Reply:Plants will not remove moisture from a damp cellar. The only thing that would help would be plants, trees, etc planted outside with just the roots in the cellar. That obviosly would be impossible. You either grow mushrooms or dry the place out. You know what needs to be done to dry it out.
Reply:ferms
Reply:er... I don't mean to be rude but you do have natural light down there don't you?
A friend of mine wondered why nothing would grow in her bathroom. It had no windows!
Reply:first of all plants need sunlight. even moss can't be grown with total absence of sunlight. the best way is to damp proof it so that you will permanently solve the problem once and for all.
